Founded by Niki Cotter, a sole practitioner with over 22 years of experience in accounting and financial advisory, The Ethical Accountant specializes in supporting small to medium businesses with accounting, cash flow management, and strategic financial planning.
Young Australians entering the workforce face important financial and legal responsibilities that can feel overwhelming. Many students don't understand their rights as workers, how the tax system works, or how to manage their money effectively. Mental health challenges during this transition are also common but often go unaddressed.
This hub was created to provide clear, accurate, and accessible information about taxation, superannuation, employment rights, budgeting, and wellbeing. Our goal is to empower students aged 12-17 with the knowledge they need to make confident decisions about their working life and financial future.
We believe that education is the foundation of good financial decision-making. By providing honest, jargon-free information early, we help young people build healthy financial habits and understand their rights from the start of their working lives.

Niki Cotter is the founder and sole practitioner of The Ethical Accountant. With over 22 years of experience in accounting and financial advisory, Niki has worked with hundreds of small to medium businesses to build strong financial systems, improve cash flow, and make informed decisions.
Niki's approach is grounded in the belief that good accounting is about more than compliance—it's about understanding your numbers, building trust, and creating sustainable financial systems. She specializes in working with Xero-based businesses and provides direct, hands-on support to every client.
After witnessing firsthand how poor financial advice and lack of transparency create stress and unnecessary risk, Niki built The Ethical Accountant around three principles: honesty, education, and long-term sustainability. She's passionate about helping both business owners and young people understand their finances and make decisions they can stand behind.
